Meet our lovely pets of the week who are looking for a forever home at the RSPCA ACT shelter!

Jake and Dusty are the friendly pets of the week! These adorable animals are waiting to find their perfect mate. Do you think it could be you? Read more about them below!

Bird of the Week: Jake

This handsome gentleman with a cheeky smile and a spiky comb has enjoyed a happy family life. He is smart, aware of his surroundings and loves a chat! He is about 45 years old, you see, a charming middle-aged guy.

Domestic cockatoos like Jake live to be around 70 or 80 years old, so he still has a lot of love to give. He is stunningly handsome and loves to spread his crest to show off. Most impressively, he will greet you!

“Hi! Hi!” He’s great. You have to answer him, and if you do, he keeps saying, “What are you doing? What are you doing?” We think he has a great vocabulary, but he’s not very happy living in our shelter, so we don’t see his full potential.

Experienced owners of large birds will love Jake, and he will certainly be happy to meet you. Of course, you will need a large cage for your home. Come in and ask to meet him, you won’t regret it.

Dusty

Dusty is a kelpie through and through – and quite stunning! Photo: RSPCA ACT.

Dog of the Week: Dusty

Can you help our friendly girl Dusty find a home? She is a fun dog and would be perfect for someone looking for a new companion and helper.

As you can see from the photo, this is the Kelpie breed with all its charm. It will need plenty of exercise, but nothing that the family or person would not want; take it for a walk, play, let it burn off some energy and it will be your best friend in the evenings.

Dusty is “easy” to play with. She loves to play fetch (at 100 km/h) and enjoys walks where she can sniff around, you know, like most dogs.

She is fit, healthy and beautiful – everything you could want in a new pet. If it’s time to add a pet to your family and home, Dusty is your girl!

Note: As the weather warms up, there is a chance that litters of kittens will arrive at our shelter soon. To help, please make sure your cat is neutered. Thanks, Canberra.

Visit RSPCA ACT today at 12 Kirkpatrick St, Weston and add a new companion to your life. You won’t regret it!
