McLaughlin Ready for Dream Debut

Hayley McLaughlin will play her first game for the Hawks!

Rising star Hayley McLaughlin will make her AFLW debut on Saturday afternoon, named in the Hawthorn squad that will face Collingwood at Victoria Park.

The 18-year-old joins Hawthorn as part of the AFLW expansion preparations after a dominant junior career with Eastern Ranges and Vic Metro.

McLaughlin was initially recruited as a talented winger and after showing success up front while playing for Box Hill in the VFLW earlier this year, she has broadened her skillset, averaging 13 interceptions and just under four points in five matches.

The teenager now has a chance to fulfil her dream and play for the club she supports.

Max Bailey, Hawthorn’s General Manager of Football Operations, congratulated McLaughlin on her debut.

“We are proud of the work Hayley has done since arriving at the club last year,” said Bailey.

“She is a tough, versatile player with great endurance who I am sure Hawks fans will love to watch.

“We are looking forward to watching her perform against the Pies on Saturday and are confident she will be a key part of our future at the Hawks.”

Hawthorn will announce their full squad for Week 2 tonight at 6:20pm.
